CORE FUNCTIONS:

There are numerous opportunities for change to occur in the communities BOTG operates in. The following are the initial and long-term stages of what it will take to bring about community transformation while working alongside the people and furthering the growth of our efforts.

  • Medical Team Deployments
  • Long Term Medical Clinic Development
  • Children Care Programs
  • Health/ Hygiene & HIV/ AIDS Education
  • Feeding Programs
  • Agricultural Training & Community Gardening
  • Building Family Homes
OTHER ACTIVITIES THAT NEED FUNDING:

The following BOTG initiatives help battle malnutrition, deal with HIV and AIDS, and inject small amounts of capital into the local economy.
  • Water wells ($6500 / Water well) - The needs for clean drinking water is the highest priority and the greatest needs in every community around the world, and it's incredibly simple to make happen -- we just need your help. In Haiti, for example, women and children typically will walk around three miles, two or three times a day, just to collect water. Drilling for a clean source of water typically reduces disease in rural communities by over 50%.
  • Food Distribution ($2000 /month) - Food distribution to members of local villages in the communities we provide medical assistance is critical. There is a fine line in distributing food between helping people and creating dependency which helps nobody. Our goal is to feed every patient we see, which is essential when giving medications that can cause further illness because they're not eating first.
  • Temporary Shelter - The aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti has left hundreds of thousands without shelter. Tarps, rope, tends, blankets, sheets, pillows, and related supplies are in need. Tents provide shelter from the elements, insects, and give a sense of peace to those who have been forced to sleep on the streets.
  • Health Care Kits - Provide home based health care kits to care givers as they go out into the community showing compassion to those with HIV/AIDS, and other terminal conditions. These are inexpensive ways to reach out to those in need.
  • Micro-Finance/Agricultural Training - In addition to providing medical support and food distribution, one of our primary goals is to employ the "teach a man to fish" concept so that villagers can move from dependency on assistance programs to self sufficiency.
  • Computer class laptops ($700- 1500 /laptop) - A program directed by Harold Tarter, our goal is to provide laptops (which are preferred over desktop because of the erratic supply of electricity) to community leaders so they can better organize, plan, and execute programs that make their communities better places. In addition, we are setting up computer labs through approved organizations and missions so students can learn skills.
  • Carpentry Class/Tools ($10-2000 /Item) - We provide tools and classes on how to use them to help the people of Haiti rebuild their communities in wake of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake. One of the worst things that could happen is that they build on top of the old defunct buildings using the same poor quality. By providing tools and education, we can help assure new buildings are structurally sound and safe.
